With the help of her new stepmother, she receives the verdict of "Not Proven" at her trial. Then she must deal with the stares and whispered accusations sent in her direction. Davina decides to go to Africa with some friends to try to escape her past. The love of her life, Ninian Grainger, becomes determined to prove her innocence. With the help of her friends and loved ones, she begins to learn how to cope with the tragic circumstances that brought her to Africa.
