A young horse farmer, Lanen, has dreamed of dragons all her life. Reaching the Dragon Isle she meets Akor, a glorious silver dragon. They fall utterly in love with one another, even when such a union seems outright bizarre. Together they struggle against the upheaval caused by evil sorcerers and endeavor to convince the Council of Dragons to end the ancient strife between dragon and humans. Nearing the end of the book, the dragon is unexpectedly transformed into a human male. He and Lanen return to her land of origin and are blissfully wed.
