Stray Souls - Magicals Anonymous 1 Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Stray Souls - Magicals Anonymous 1

Sharon Li, a coffee shop barista, begins a Magicals Anonymous group, and then discovers she's a shaman who has to save the city. Sharon Li begins the story as a terrible barista. Her boss screams at her and tells her she has a bad attitude. She starts a facebook group called "Weird Manure Keeps Happening to Me and I don't know why but I figure I need help". They meet in person one night and she dubs them "Magicals Anonymous". She meets a druid names Rhys, a vampire who has OCD named Kevin, a banshee who can only write not speak named Sally, and a human named Mrs. Rafaat who doesn't know what's wrong with her. Gretel, a troll, lingers after the meeting. She asks Sharon, if she could get a pizza for the next meeting. Sharon buys takeway and her and Gretel have dinner.

When Sharon returns to work, there is a goblin screaming angrily demanding tea. However, her co-workers cannot hear it. She gives Sammy, the goblin tea and he tells her to meet him. He tells her she is a shaman and he will be her teacher. He also tells her that Greydawn is missing and she has to save the city. That night Sharon gets lost in the shamanic dream path. When she awakes, it is almost noon. She was supposed to be at work. Her spirit guide, makes an appearance and his name is Cliff. The spirit guide tells her to walk through walls and trespass on this business property. However, there is a door she cannot walk through nor open. She sees Rhys, the druid, working on computer servers and shoves him into the women's restroom. Rhys tells her she knows who can break the wards. They go to Mr. Roding's home(the necromancer) and he nearly slams the door in their face. He can't be bothered with saving the city. Then Rhys ( the druid), mentions an acne potion and he lets them in.
Then they head to find "the friendlies" which are a society of people who worship Greydawn. Edna is the high priestess but is still startled when after she shuts the door on Sharon, sharon merely walks through the wall. She is then convinced to find the priest. When they go to the priest's house, he is nowhere. However, Kevin, the vampire, tracks his objects and declares the priest dead. Sharon disappears and tells them he is indeed buried under their feet. They are attacked by the four deadliest magical assassins and survive. Mr. Ruislip, the wendigo, tells Sharon that she must give him Greydawn or everyone will die. The dog, who can kill and maim, that is a companion to Greydawn shows up. However, when they are about to turn and run. Mrs. Rafaat, the human starts petting the dog. That's when Sharon realizes that Mrs. Rafaat is Greydawn. Edna, the priestess worshipper, gives her blood so Greydawn can come back. Greydawn turns her wrath on Mr. Ruislip, the wendigo who summoned her and tried to kill her and broke the wall between worlds. Sharon, the now unemployed, single woman gets paid by the Midnight Mayor to run her "community support group".
Best part of story, including ending: I did not like the short, almost mini chapters.

Best scene in story: My favorite scene is the one where she's in the coffee shop and she's the only one who can hear the goblin demanding tea.

Opinion about the main character: I like the sarcasm, the witty banter and the slang that Sharon Li uses and embodies.
