This story is all about two sisters, Hilary and Ria. In the beginning they live with their widowed mother Nora. Then each girl meets a man. Hilary gets married to the kind down-to-earth Martin, and Ria meets up with Danny at her job. Danny is a little too 'smooth.' Danny says they will have an expensive house on Tara Road, and Ria wonders how. Danny pulled some strings to get in there. They go on as a family, later having two children.

Later on, there is a devastating betrayal that happens to Ria and she doesn't know how to get through it. It so happens at this time, that another woman gets in contact with Ria for an opportunity to exchange homes for the summer. This gives Ria some solace, and taking another woman up on it, she goes to the US and the other woman, Marilyn, moves into Ria's house on Tara Road in Ireland.
What these two women gain from the exchange is remarkable.

Rita was not the most fabulous looking of women, but there was something about her that Danny couldn't keep away from.
Danny, smug, handsome, and someone Rita thought she could trust wholeheartedly. Why wouldn't she? Friends...Are your friends really your friends?...Sometimes you have to look across the Atlantic to find your true ones.

A wonderful tale of a woman living life and finding herself at home in her neighborhood in Ireland and away in Connecticut.

An absolutely marvelous book. The story of family & friends in Ireland and a glimpse into their interesting lives. (It was like being a fly on the wall, watching things unfold in front of me! It was great!) Also, a family from the United States, and how the two make a journey into each others lives, to heal and grow.
