Beryl, a photographer, is picked to go on an expedition to northern Canada beacuse, with her five foot one frame, she's the only one who can comfortably fit in the cage they will use to photograph polar bears up close. Beryl, feeling out of place since she's the only woman in the group, must also learn to deal with the extreme cold. The cold becomes the main adversary after the bears damage their only form of transportation and force them to make their way back to civilization on foot. One by one the other members of the expedition succomb to the cold. Alone, Beryl must rely only on her own inner strength to survive.
