Sir Colenso Ridgeon has been knighted for his discovery of a new treatment for tuberculosis. The beautiful Jennifer Dudebat comes to Ridgeon to treat her sick husband, Louis, who is both an artist and a bigamist. Louis is invited to dinner with Ridgeon and some of his colleagues. After he leaves his bigamy is discovered.
Also as at the dinner is a poor medical practitioner, Blenkinsop, who is also sick. Ridgeon, with only enough medicine to treat one of the two patients, chooses the honorable Blenkinsop over the rascally Dudebat. His decision is complicated by the fact that he is in love with Jennifer.
Dudebat dies, but when Rideon confesses his love to Jennifer, he discovers that she has already remarried.
