The Elephants of Norwich Book Review Summary

Detailed Plot Synopsis of The Elephants of Norwich

This is the eleventh book in a series set in old England covering the adventures of a team of Royal Commissioners, who are travelling the country settling land claims following the Norman invasion. The books tend to follow a tight formula but this does not make them any less of a pleasure to read. On their arrival in Norwich, the commissioners are greeted by a murder and a theft, to be solved before they start their own legal duties. The elephants are two small solid gold replicas, a present for the prospective bride of Richard de Fontene. The murder victim is de Fontenel's steward, who was last seen alive returning the treasures to their strong box.   Commissioners, Gervase Bret and Ralph Delchard are regular characters in these stories, as is Golde, Delchard's wife, who regularly travels with them. Their fellow commissioner, this time, is Eustace Coureton, their scribe is Brother Daniel, and Gervase has brought along his new wife Alys. They all become part of the criminal investigation and help solve the crimes.
