The main character is Case Wakefield, who enlisted in the Confederate Army and who rose in the ranks to become a sergeant in the Army Of Tennessee. The plot takes place twenty years after the Civil War ended. A friend will ask Case to assist her in finding the body of an old Confederate Commander who died during the battle of Franklin. Case will make the trip to Franklin and will reflect on his war days.

Case reflects on the horrors of war, the long marches, and devastating battles. He shows his feeling and his emotions and what he went through as a soldier in the Army of Tennessee.

Best part of story, including ending: The book is brilliantly written and one will almost be transported to the events that take place in this work. A hard book to put down. Anyone who loves the Civil War will absolutely love this book. The battle scenes are very descriptive and strait forward.

Best scene in story: I love the choice Case had to make if to go to Franklin or forget his haunting past.He didn't want to think about those war year, but now the past has confronted him and he will recall it.

Opinion about the main character: Case is a survivor, and has much to share. He is telling his story about being an enlisted soldier in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.
