Laura, seventeen, is sexually assaulted, her room ransacked and she is left for dead in a motel in a gang-ridden town. From her hospital room she says she will testify only to go missing when the trial starts. Prosecutor Gaby Ruiz has spent most of her professional life prosecuting sex crimes. She is set on a mission to not only find Laura, but who did this to her, as well as fix her own guilt over not protecting her mother from an abusive relationship.

Best scene in story: When Gaby found the real abuser and set Laura 'free'.

Opinion about the main character: I didn't like the fact that Laura ran from testifying.
