The Rowan is orphaned at a very young age, and no one, not even her knows what her real name is or who her parents were. Because she is a powerful telepath and telekinetic, she is trained to be a Prime, so that she can one day shuttle people and cargo from one planet or moon to another. The strength of her abilities causes the Rowan to feel lonely, separate from other people. When she is telepathically contacted by a man on a far away colony, she sees an end to her loneliness. However, first she and the other telepaths must prevent a space ship full of insect-like aliens from destroying the human race.
