When Lily was 4 years old, she stared talking to a shadow girl named Iris. She mentions it to her parents and her parents try to tell her it is just her shadow and imaginary friend. But now its Lily's 17th birthday and she still talks to Iris. But she doesn't tell her parents. The morning of her 17th birthday as Lily and her dad are headed back from watching the sunrise, they get into an accident. She finds someone who calls for help and he stays to try and calm her. But her dad dies in the hospital. The day she has a memorial for him, she finally meets the guy that helped them. His name is Ty Collier. He is actually from out of town.

As they days go by she notices that her mom is spending every waking minute out in her dads workshop. So when her mother goes to sleep for the night she decides to go out in the shop and find out why her mother is spending so much time out there. While she is out there going through the stuff she finds really fancy clothes and a note from a guy named Jake. Which she has no idea what it all means. But Iris seems to be really excited, like she remembers something, but at the same time doesn't exactly know what she is remembering.
A few days pass and Ty actually comes by for an interview to finish the roof for Lily's mom. While her mom is doing the interview she realizes that she can't help but stare at him. But she also seems to be falling for her friend Wyatt. When Lily goes back to her dads workshop she takes Wyatt with her, when she goes back to the note that she found from a guy named Jake in the jewelry box, she plays the music that the jewelry box plays. When that happens she seems to be in a trance and when the music stops she notices that she has wrote the word “Winterhaven Massachusetts” on the bottom of the note. Iris seems to think that they can find Jake there if they can only figure out his last name.
After Ty has been working on the roof a few days Ty asks Lily to meet him some place. So she suggests the most secluded place she knows in town. When her mother goes to take a nap she goes to meet Ty. She actually has a lot of fun with him. He makes her feel alive with electricity.
After a while she notices more weird things are happening, like when she picks up the violin that was in her dads workshop she learns that she plays very very well. Even though she has never played the violin before in her life. But Lily soon finds out that she had a sister that died of leukemia at the age of 18. 18 years before Lily was born. That sister was Iris. But the weird thing is that Lily looks just like Iris. So she isn't quite understanding what is going on if Iris is not her twin. Lily then learns that her parents had a totally different life before she was born and their last name was actually Marshall not Winston.
Lily finds out that her dad used to be a scientist. He worked on gene mutation. Which started out with animals, but later moved to Iris being the first human project. Lily's mother wanted to keep Iris around that she decided to do the cloning even though she knew there were risks to doing it. Lily has the exact same birthday as Iris did before she died only 18 years apart.
After Lily tells Ty about everything he actually does believe her. So he agrees to take her to see Jake. When Lily meets Jake she finds out she is actually a clone of Iris.
Best part of story, including ending:
I like the fact that the story revolves around cloning someone and it actually working. I really hate that her family kept in the dark for 17 years and would have actually never told her.
Best scene in story:
My favorite scene is when she is at the meeting place with Ty. She is so happy and actually forgets about the stuff she has been through the last few weeks after her father dies.
Opinion about the main character:
I really like that the main character was raised in a very small town her whole life and had never been outside of Colorado. But is willing to go as far away as she has to, to figure out the truth. Even though her mother tells her not to.
