As the Unclean prepares to mount an invasion of Hiero's homeland in ancient Canada, Hiero thwarts their plots and evades their clutches, hoping only that he will not be too late.

This is the follow up to Hiero's Journey. Hiero is kidnapped early in the book by his enemies but manages to escape even though his mental powers have been destroyed by a drug given him by them. He then travels though a vastly changed land and meets new allies who help his get some of his powers back and help him to aid his nation in a series of battles against the "Unclean". The book finishes on a note to suggest a third book was planned but this has never been published - Alas!
