The Widow Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Widow

Boston police officer Abigail Browning has been upset for the last seven years by the unsolved murder of her husband Chris. Abby can't get past the fact that her FBI/lawman husband was murdered during their honeymoon in Mount Desert Island, Maine. Although Abby has received leads and tips over the years, her quest has always led to dead ends. Now, after receiving a mysterious tip via the telephone, Abby heads back to Mount Desert Island in order to solve Chris' murder. As Abby delves into the circumstances surrounding Chris' death, she begins to unravel the secrets lurking within the Garrison and Cooper families. The Garrison and Coopers are wealthy Maine families who shared close knit ties with Chris. Owen Garrison was one of Chris' best friends, and was the individual who found Chris' body the morning he was discovered fatally shot on the beach. Owen has always blamed himself for not being able to save Chris. Abby meanwhile harbors supsicions about Owen and his entire family. The Garrison family has been haunted by the tragic drowning some twenty years earlier of Doe Garrison, Owen's sister. Abby cannot rid herself of the belief that Doe's mysterious drowning death is somehow related to Chris' murder. When Abby continues to receive mysterious phone calls warning her that "things are happening on Mt. Desert Island", she fears that the killer may strike again. As Abby finds herself drawn romantically towards Owen, she joins forces with him to catch a killer before he strikes again.
