Berry's co-worker Orin Starks has been stalking her from some time and he came to Berry's house that night and shot Ben Lofland. Before leaving he told Berry that he will kill her. Caroline wants Dodge, who was a former police officer and now a private detective to find Orin before he can hurt Berry.
Caroline and Dodge had divorced 30 years ago and Dodge had never even met Berry. Dodge starts working with local deputy Sky Nyland.
The story goes back and forth between the present day and thirty years ago, telling when and how Dodge and Caroline fell in love.
Thirty years ago, Dodge was a police officer who had responded to a domestic violence call by Caroline King. Caroline was abused by her boyfriend, Dodge rescues her and they start living together in a Dodge's little apartment. While working undercover to find a bank robber Dodge is asked to seduce an ex-con's girlfriend. In the meantime Dodge and Caroline fell in love, get married and Caroline becomes pregnant. On the night of her delivery Caroline goes to the hospital while Dodge is having sex with ex-cons girlfriend trying find out some information.
In the present day, Orin Starks kills many people one of them his another co-worker whom he was also accused of stalking. After a lot of chase police and Dodge find Orin nearly dead in a swarm. He then dies in the hospital. But then it is revealed that Orin had a twin brother whom he sent to kill Berry and who is dead now. Orin never stalked anyone, for her own personal gain Berry framed Orin and cost him his job. Orin then started stalking her and tried to get revenge by killing her.
In the end Orin again attack Berry but is rescued by Dodge and Sky. Dodge and Caroline reconcile and Berry and Sky fall in love with each other during this ordeal.
Best part of story, including ending: I like this story because of its unexpected plot twists.

Best scene in story: My favorite scene is when it is revealed that Orin Starks had a twin and the twin is the one who is dead.

Opinion about the main character: I dislike Berry because she falsely accused Orin of behaving badly with her and another co worker and because of that Orin started targeting her.
