Visits from the Drowned Girl Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Visits from the Drowned Girl

Benny Poteat is a kind of construction worker--he works on towers, doing repairs. From such a height, he sees a lot of things. But he was not prepared to witness a girl set up a tripod with a camera to film herself as she walked into a river and drowned. Benny does nothing to stop her; maybe because he thinks it's impossible to get to her in time, or maybe for other reasons. He takes his time in going over to the river. The girl has left a bag full of eight films and a business card. Benny gathers all the evidence and hides it. He spends the next few months trying to unravel the mystery of the girl's life and death. He watches the tapes one by one and tracks down the woman on the business card (who is the girl's sister), befriending her in an effort to discover more about the drowned girl. He gets to know the girl's family, who is worried over her absence, and Benny must conceal the secret that she is dead.
