A survivor of a totalitarian Europe, but living under an army of occupation, following Europe's defeat by the rest of the world, Henry accidentally steals the funds of the defeated Soperites. Bankrolled by them he sets out, gradually, to avenge himself and wipe out all those remaining Soperite sympathisers still at large. Using first a knife, he progresses to an automatic weapon and from obvious functionaries of the totalitarian state to its more ambiguous collaborators. It is a gruesome read, Henry's story and the rise of the totalitarian state being linked together by means of quotes from various histories and commentaries.
