When I began this book I thought that I would not really enjoy a book about a black woman with HIV, boy was I wrong! This book touches the heart and soal. It is a powerful story of sisters, mothers, enemies, struggle, and best of all love. This book is a fast and easy read, I highly recemmond this book for anyone.

A black woman that has it all then decides that because of AIDS, she must give it all up, then discovers that there is quite a lot to live for. A novelization of life amongst blacks, both good and bad, is deftly protrayed with all the cuss words and horrible grammer along with the educated and caring spirit of others. While this book is not for youngsters nor those of an immature demeanor, it is nonetheless a quick read into the basic good vs. evil. It provides an honest view point from the black perspective in
America, taking a look at those in the drug and sex trap, to those who would see the good and do something about it. You'll rally behind the sister, the handyman and narrator and show contempt for a preacher, his wife, his child and friend. Written in anything but a preachy style, the message comes across loud and clear.

This was a book that is touching yet real. I haven't read any contemporary books about love and sex and AIDS in the 90's. Some women have learned that some men take for granted their positions as women and disrespect them no matter what they do. This book is a tell tale about a owman who is alienated beause of her sexualy transmitted disease HIV (not quite fully blown aids yet). She moves back a to her home town called Idlewild with her sister for the summer, and finds all that she has been looking for and then some when it comes down to the preacher's wife and the preacher, and the young hellyuns of the town. What she finds is that any man who loves you unconditionally will not care about your situation as long as they can be with you. I admit this is a moving story about love and friendship, family, and fighting for what is right. I think all could enjoy this story!
