The Biologist: The Biologist is a biologist. She's an independent thinker. She goes to Area X to find the monster in the tower, and ends up giving it a blow job. Think I'm joking? Read on.
Ghost Bird: Ghost Bird is a zombie duplicate of the Biologist. Ghost Bird has the Biologist's memories, but she was created by a monster called the Crawler in the Biologist's image.
The Surveyor: The Surveyor is a member of an expedition to explore Area X.
The Psychologist: The Psychologist is the leader of the expedition to explore Area X. She uses hypnotic commands to control the others. The others don't know it, but she is also the Director of the Southern Reach, the organization which is studying Area X.

Control: Control is a guy named John who becomes the new Director of the Southern Reach after the Psychologist gets killed in Area X.
The Voice/Lowry: Control's boss only talks to him on the phone and is called "Voice", but later we find out his name is Lowry, the survivor of the first expedition to Area X. Lowry is crazy.
Whitby: A scientist who went to Area X. When he returned he went crazy. No one seems to care.
Grace: Grace is deputy director of the Southern Reach. She and Control fight a lot.
Saul: Saul is the homosexual lighthouse keeper. He gets turned into an alien after he catches Space AIDS.
