Plot Summary Part 3

Ben describes how when he visited Christine in the insane asylum, she would get upset, so he stopped visiting and divorced her. So you see, he divorced Christine for her benefit! Ben has a heart of gold, doesn't he? Heheheheheheh.

Christine doesn't know what to think. Ben has lied to her about practically everything, the book, the kid, the divorce, the accident, and so on. You can look on it as a kindness or as something with evil intent. This story is getting kind of repetitive, isn't it?

Christine decides to go home, take off her clothes, and starts masturbating. She parts her labia and rubs her clitoris. This is one sex-starved woman!

Christine is surprised to learn that Ben knows about her journal. Evidently she told him about it on a previous day and forgot, which is odd, as it usually would be something she would write down. Anyway Ben says he is ok that she wrote in her journal and is seeing Dr. Nash.

On a different topic, Ben has arranged a very special trip for them both. They go on vacation.

When they get to the hotel room, Christine recognizes immediately. It's the hotel room she was attacked in! Ben makes an excuse to leave and says he will be back soon.

Christine searches his luggage and finds pages of her journal that Ben had ripped out! She finds a very different story. She reads how when she told Ben about her diary, he was very angry, and he beat her up, wack wack wack!  Hm, that doesn't seem like Ben, does it?

Then she reads in the ripped out pages of her journal that Christine told her that her son Adam wasn't killed in Afghanistan, that he's alive and lives nearby.

Then she reads a passage of Claire describing Ben and mentions Ben has a scar on his face, and she realizes that the person Christine knows as Ben is not Ben. Some guy pretending to be Ben has been boning her for the past few months!!!!

"Ben" comes back into the hotel room. Christine tells him that she remembers now. "Ben" is really Mike, the guy she was having an affair with. The guy who nearly killed her in the hotel room.

She remembers everything now. She had gone to the hotel with Mike and told him she was ending the affair. Mike got upset and (a) nearly strangled her (b) nearly drowned her and (c) banged her head against the ground. That's how she became a retard. When Christine got locked in the insane asylum and Ben, the real Ben, stopped visiting, Mike showed up pretending to be Ben, and got Christine out of the insane asylum and brought her to his home, pretending to be Ben. I guess you could say that he loved her in his own way; you'd have to really love her to want to take care of a woman who loses her memory every day. But of course what he did was quite wrong.

Mike is pleased. He wanted Christine to remember, which is why he brought the ripped out pages of the diary with him. He wants Christine to call him by his real name and to tell everyone that she is very happy to be with him now.

They fight. Mike beats her up. Wack wack wack!

He ties Christine up to a chair and starts to burn her diary in front of her so she won't remember any of this. Christine leans forward in her chair and tips over the garbage can and starts a fire in the hotel room. At this point it seems pretty clear that Christine will burn to death.

But no, suddenly the police appear and save Christine before she gets burned. How convenient, and unlikely, is that?

It turns out that Claire and Dr. Nash figured out that Ben was not really Ben and Dr. Nash took a wild guess that Mike would take Christine to the scene of the crime and here they are! Christine learns that Mike, pretending to be Ben, took her out of the insane asylum four months ago so Mike has been banging her for four months.
