Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman Summary Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine

Plot Summary Part 3

Or perhaps she lies down on the floor first and drinks the vodka before taking off her clothes. The result is the same.

Raymond comes by to find her drunk on the floor completely nude. Instead of taking the opportunity to squeeze her boobs, he covers her in towels (yes, he covers her in towels) and takes care of her.

Raymond, realizing it is not normal for Eleanor to get drunk and naked on the floor, realizes she is a retard, and sends her to a psychiatrist who specializes in retards. It seems Eleanor tried to kill herself with alcohol. Or maybe she tried to kill herself by lying on an especially hard floor, or by exposing her nipples to the elements and having them freeze to death.

Eleanor's psychiatrist, named Maria, has many sessions with Eleanor. Eleanor reveals that some guy boned her Mom without permission, making Eleanor a certified rape baby. That's why Eleanor doesn't know her dad. Her dad was just some random p_nis.

Eleanor gets a cat. There are pages and pages of discussion about the cat. I'm sure you'd find it very exciting.

Here's the funniest line in the entire book, when Raymond goes out to smoke a cigarette:

"I'm going to nip downstairs for a fag."

Heh heh heh heh I'm laughing so hard as I type this!!!!!

Ok, I'm better now. There are many pages showing Eleanor going shopping for food, or vodka, or reading the newspaper. It was all very exciting and compelling.

After more intensive sessions with Maria, Eleanor revealed she had a younger sister named Marianne. It's a repressed memory. That leads to another repressed memory. Her mother set a fire and killed Marianne, and almost killed Eleanor.

The full story: her mother drugged Eleanor and Marianne and tied them to their beds and set a fire to kill them all. But somehow Eleanor (only 10 years old at the time) escaped from being tied up and drugged and didn't die. How she escaped is totally unexplained.

But her sister Marianne and her mother died. This leads to the biggest WTF moment in the book.
