Orphan Train by Christina Baker Klein Summary Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Orphan Train

Molly: Molly is a present day orphan who is alienated from society and dresses like a vampire whore. But her friendship with Vivian causes her to become more sensitive and she starts closing her legs and dressing more normally.

Vivian: Vivian is an old lady who used to be an orphan. She tells Molly her life's story, how she was treated worse than dog shit. Her real name was Niamh, then she had it changed to Dorothy, than Vivian.

Mrs. Byrne: Mrs. Byrne was Vivian's first foster mom. She treated Vivian like a slave and had her work in a sweatshop.

Mr. Grote: Mr. Grote was Vivian's second foster dad. He tried to bone her, but she wasn't into it.

Mrs. Grote: Mrs. Grote was Vivian's second foster mom. She was a sick baby making machine.

Dutchy: Dutchy was a guy who Molly fell in love with after spending one day with him on a train when she was nine years old. No, it makes no sense to me either.
