Halevy's relatives and needs Mrs. Halevy's help in that department. So Rachel and Mrs. Halevy reconcile and finally Rachel and Frederic are accepted back by the other Jews in town.
Jacobo learns that Aaron stole Lyddie, Jestine's daughter. Jacobo likes Jestine a lot. Jacobo is going to France, so he promises to look Lyddie up and see how she's doing.
Lyddie had changed her name to Lydia and is being boned by some French guy. She had totally forgotten her past life. She was unaware that she was half black because she and everyone in France are completely blind (there is no other explanation).
Jacobo, as part of his evolution into a gay guy, changes his name to Camille. Jacobo, now Camille, finds Lyddie and tells her that she is really the daughter of a black woman from St. Thomas named Jestine, and that Aaron tied her to a coconut tree to steal her away. Lyddie is surprised to learn she is black which should have been 500% super-obvious.

Camille returns to St. Thomas. He gives Jestine a letter from Lyddie. Lyddie writes that she had forgotten all about Jestine, but when Camille told her about Jestine, she very conveniently re-remembered her mother. Camille tells Jestine that Camille is being boned by some French guy.
Mrs. Halevy, who was a real bitch to Rachel before reconciling with her, died of old age. Her relative, a Jewess named Rebecca, comes to claim all of Mrs. Halevy's loot. Mrs. Halevy's black servant Mrs. James has all of Mrs. Halevy's fancy plates and rings and Rebecca wants them back. Mrs. James tells Rebecca to fuck off, and threatens to tell bad stories about Rebecca unless she gets the f out of there right now. Rebecca leaves.
At this point we find out that Aaron is half black. We never knew this before. Aaron was an orphan adopted by Rachel's family but we didn't know he was half black. Once again, people can't figure out if someone is half black by looking at them. In this story half black people all look 100% white, like Mariah Carey.
Camille continued to draw and paint. He meets a guy named Melbye who is not explicitly gay who also likes to draw and paint. Camille wants to go to Venezuela with Melbye to draw and paint. Rachel tells him he is being a real asshole and should focus on getting a real job. Camille has a moment of self realization when he finds the bones of Magic Herb Man lying around. That's right, Magic Herby Man died and his bones are just lying around. Camille realizes he should go away with his not explicitly gay friend Melbye. Camille thinks Rachel is being a bitch and he goes off to Venezuela with Melbye who still is not explicitly his gay lover.
