Glory Season
Stratos is a planet colonized by humans in an attempt to create a more stable society. The majority of the people on Stratos are clans of female clones. Unique female individuals (called variants, or "vars") and men are considered to be lower class. Men and women only come into a season of sexual arousal at certain (different) times of year. Most of the time, the genders live separately. In accordance with tradition, Maia and Leie, two young vars, set...
Kiln People
This is Brin at his finest. Both a detective story and a technological exploration, Kiln People features a fascinating idea of 24 hour clones. Well, sort of clones, actually replicas pressed into a memetic clay. It is really a cool idea and presents a very interesting way for Brin to tell the story from different points of view, but all from the same character. Really a great book....
Startide Rising - Uplift Saga 2
n the 26th century, A human, neodolphin and neochimps crew of the starship streaker crash land on the beautiful uncharted world of Kithup. They must battle hostile alien armadas while they protect the most important secret of the universe. The secret is a alien mummy which gives evidence of the ancient race which seeded intelligences throughout the galaxies. This novel has scenes of battles in space and on the seas. Startide Rising has also memorable ...

The Postman
The Postman is a post-apocalyptic science fiction novel by David Brin. It was the basis of a disastrous 1997 film adaptation of the same name starring Kevin Costner (which perhaps should have been titled Dances with Razzies or perhaps Waterworld II: The Land Version). Gordon Krantz is one of the relatively few survivors of the collapse of civilization. After losing all his possessions to robbers, he finds a U.S. Mail van and puts on the uniform he fin...
The Practice Effect
Dr. Dennis Nuel has a problem: he must use the practical result of his research into parallel worlds, a device known as a zievatron, to enter an alternate world and repair the test unit at the other side, which has mysteriously malfunctioned. Upon arriving at this newly discovered world, he finds that the zievatron portal is malfunctioning because it has been vandalized. Now, Dr. Nuel finds himself stranded in a parallel reality with a quirky robot probe...
The Uplift War - Uplift Saga 3
This is the third novel of the Uplift Trilogy, but like the previous two, it stands on its own. In response to a human discovery, the Gubru race has taken a human colony world captive. Robert, the son of the planetary administrator, and Athaclena, the daughter of an alien ambassador, are the only patrons left free on the planet. With the uplifted chimps, they plan a guerilla war that has unexpected results....
