Marguerite de La Rocque is the sixteen-year-old daughter of a strict Huguenot father in France in 1542. She is in love with Pierre, the youngest son of a neighboring family, but she cannot marry him because he is Catholic. Marguerite's uncle plans to build a colony in the new world of Canada. He decides that young ladies must come along, to marry the young noble settlers. Marguerite is one of those chosen, and she is able to plan for Pierre to come along...
