The Search for William Hunter
William Hunter, a young Englishman, has made 14 trips across the Atlantic delivering shire horses from Lancashire to Iowa by the time he is 25 years old in 1888. He is in love with Ann, daughter of Squire Taylor, but he knows he can never marry her because he is a second son and won't inherit the family lands.
