Eliza is a bright young girl growing up in Manchester, England, in the 1840s. It is her dream to become a teacher, but because her family is poor, she must go to work in the mill to help make ends meet. The work is difficult and dangerous. When the workers strike, Eliza wonders if it will change anything, or just make things worse....
