corsar posts on 2/14/2006 5:10:52 AM i love the dragon of pern books, i just wonder why she never used the posibilty of a conflict between new setters an the established settlers. surley other groups of settlers could have been sent
Lady posts on 2/9/2006 7:16:23 PM I'm reading the skies of pern right now. I don't know when she wrote it, but was she quite old at the time? because i think she might have done a slightly better editing job. the very first conversation between Lessa and F'lar has Lessa saying everything, sarcastically, acerbically, acidly, caustically, and every other variation of the word you can come up with. the other thing is that i think she tried to involve everyone way too much. sure mention a name in passing, but when the comet comes, you have to see Jaxom, F'lar, Sebell, and others all wake up with their significant others and comfort their lovers in the cold. that got wearing as well. also, i thought she could have treated F'lessan more tantilizingly. but for all that, it's Pern, and so it's excellent. i admire A.M. very much.
Anna posts on 1/26/2006 7:38:34 PM Hi, Kat. Ms. McCaffrey has always been very firm that the universes in which she writes aren't connected at all. Brainships will never come to Pern, and Talents will never visit Ballybran. You won't find Doona on any of the Linyaari star maps, either. :-)

dragon ember posts on 1/24/2006 5:40:04 AM Interesting thought. makes me want to keep reading the books. unfortunately, I'm dragged down by homework. on the plus side, my friend from spain is coming to visit in 4 weeks! she's been my best friend since we were 11! oh, anyway, got my own dragon novel to write. chow for now!
Kat posts on 1/21/2006 11:18:42 PM Hi, just found this board. I was a major Anne McCaffrey years ago, and still watch for any new Pern books that might come out. What are your favorite Pern books? My favorites are: The White Dragon (in this one I think she got the best of the energy of the original trilogy, plus she'd really fleshed out the world of Pern and its characters, and then add the fun of Ruth--it all added up to a fantastic book); Dragonsdawn (fascinating to read about the first settlers arriving on Pern!); All the Weyrs of Pern (kind of the perfect culmination of the White Dragon and Dragonsdawn--so perhaps my favorite book of them all.) I've also read some books from Anne's other series, but not all. Does anyone know how interconnected her unverses are? For example, does the Rowan series take place in the same universe as the Pern books, just at a different time and place? Could Killashandra from the Crystal Singer books get in a space ship and go visit Pern, assuming she knew it was there and worth visiting (and yes, assuming she didn't need to keep mining crystal to survive.)
dragon ember posts on 1/2/2006 4:26:27 PM finnished dragonquest it was great. now I'm taking a break from mccaffrey to read eldest. I've joined the site you were on about, so look out for cassandra and yeroth!
