Don And Jean Carr posts on 7/1/2013 10:29:44 AM Our thoughts too go to Aileen and family at this sad time. We have all his books and the CD and we have met him twice. He will be sorely missed.
Diana posts on 7/1/2013 7:54:19 AM Thank you so much Annie for sharing David Day's beautiful words with us. You, Aileen and family will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers on Thursday as you say farewell to a great man who will certainly live on through his writing. The world is definitely a better place for having known him, even from afar. My love to you all, Diana - Southampton
claire martin posts on 7/1/2013 7:08:32 AM Dear Annie, thank you for sharing the beautiful words from David day with us, perfectly put I think. I am sure we will all be thinking of you all and of course Aileen on Thursday morning and having a moment to remember a man who, through his books has somehow become very dear to us all. I feel as if a favourite uncle has passed , people who haven't read his books will never understand how sad we all feel and his little acts of thoughtfulness to some of us have made us love him more. Deric you were a gentleman and the world is a richer place for having you in it xxx

sugeebas (FB Susan Ager) posts on 7/1/2013 6:26:50 AM Dear Annie Q, the words from David Day sums Deric up to a T and I loved reading them, thank you for sharing them with us. Don't know the time of the cremation service on Thursday, but I will try to locate a church that is open here and will burn a candle in Deric's memory on the day. Heather, Deric would have loved your card, what a shame it never arrived. Best wishes to everyone and I am sure we will all be together in thought on Thursday morning, love Susan
heather dunn posts on 7/1/2013 5:32:48 AM thank you, Susan, lovely idea. I tried to send a card at xmas but I didnt have the full address and it was returned. It was a funny card with slugs on ,which I thought Deric would like.
Kat posts on 6/30/2013 8:00:13 PM So terribly sad to log on here and learn the news we were all dreading. Thank you Susan for the card thought - I think it's a beautiful idea and a testimant to the bond the people on this forum have formed as he bought us together through our mutual love of his books, and the sneak peeks we had into his extraordinary life. A truly unique gentleman. May God bless you Deric. I have no doubt there will be a furry reception committee waiting to greet you. You will NEVER be Forgotten. Rest In Peace. xx
Annie Q posts on 6/30/2013 5:47:07 PM Dearest Annie I'm terribly sad to hear the news about Deric. He was such a dear sweet gentle man, and such a brilliant writer and raconteur. He had such a wonderful gift of observation and true appreciation of people - particularly the truly eccentric ones - of both of the human and animal varieties.  Observations that fortunately Deric conveyed by means of his terrific story-telling skills in his writing - and indeed in his everyday conversation. He was a man and a writer of such good will and compassion that he always managed to be both extraordinarily funny and hugely warm-hearted at once. I'm certain everyone who knew he even a little will mourn his passing - as will I.  Annie, I'm very sad as well for you, as I know how much you loved him and cherished his company. But of course it must be doubly sad for your mother now, for as you say he was such a comfort to her: something of a guardian angel, as well as loving husband and companion. My condolences and kindest best wishes to both you and your mother. Much love David  Dear All Thank you from all our family, my Mum Aileen in particular for your kind support, words and thoughts. I shall print them to read aloud to her and select some for Deric's service celebrating his life on Thursday morning 4th in Huddersfield Crematorium. I wanted to finally share with you the words (above)of a dear family friend, the Canadian poet David Day.
Liz from Buxton posts on 6/30/2013 5:43:03 PM Audrey, depression is a very private hell, but you are not alone. Some of us suffer less than others, but we know the blackness, whether it is for a day, a week, a month or years. God bless you.
sugeebas (FB Susan Ager) posts on 6/30/2013 4:18:54 PM Wow, I didn't expect such a response to my idea, thank you. I just thought that as I was sending a card anyway, that it would be nice to include you all. Like already said, Deric has unwittingly helped many of us through some tough times in life and for that I will be eternally grateful. I am looking forward to reading his books again, one day, it is just too painful for me now. Best wishes to you all, Susan
Ally Young posts on 6/30/2013 3:59:54 PM I will be posting a card through the letterbox on Tuesday too when I feed my friend's cats. They sent me a text today saying how much they were going to miss him, he was very fond of their cats and apparently he used the feed them bacon when he though they (my friends) weren't looking ;) Lovely man :)
