Deric Longden Message Board

Patrick posts on 6/28/2013 8:32:28 AM Hi Folks Heard the news on Woman's Hour this morning. Like being hit in the face by a bat of course, despite reading the Huddersfield Ex article a little while ago. As other's have said, a light indeed. As I said on twitter this morning "A light has gone out in the midst of a Literary Ocean". All best wishes to all.
Heather posts on 6/27/2013 4:08:36 PM News I was dreading! I take comfort from the fact that I have the books especially "The Cat that came in from the cold" and that Deric lives on through those! My heartfelt condolences to Aileen and all the family at this sad time!
Mollie Brown posts on 6/27/2013 12:48:17 PM So very very sad; I will always remember Deric ringing me when I couldn't get hold of a copy of Lost for Words and he put me one in the post. He's gone but will never be forgotten; wonderful man with a personality to match. God bless. Thinking of Aileen and family and hope they get a bit of solace from the fact that Deric was loved by all.

Kerry posts on 6/26/2013 6:57:25 PM Such sad news. I can't imagine Aileen without Deric or Deric without Aileen. I do like to think that there will be a line of moggies awaiting Deric's arrival, however, and am cheered by the fact that many people go through life without finding the kind of happiness that Deric and Aileen shared for so many years. Rest in Peace Deric, with a cat (or three!) on your lap. x
debbiefleming posts on 6/26/2013 6:11:49 PM Thank you Annie for letting us know the sad news. Deric has left a wonderful legacy and will live on in the hearts of those of us who love his wonderful books and cd's. Our thoughts and prayers are with Aileen and all the family. God Bless x
Pat posts on 6/26/2013 5:33:01 AM I'm so saddened by this news...thank you to Annie for telling us. As others have said it's like losing a friend, I often think of Deric's words in my everyday life. Thank you for the laughter and the tears lovely man. My thoughts go out to Aileen and the family. x
Jan Tenzer posts on 6/26/2013 2:28:38 AM Denis Kilcommons wrote a beautiful piece about Deric in the Huddersfield Examiner today which I thankfully found online. My thoughts and prayers are with Aileen and family. Jan
Andrea posts on 6/25/2013 6:35:57 AM Even though I knew this would happen someday I always hoped that it wouldn't be so soon. So I was really shocked to find Annie's words a few minutes ago. Deric seems to be one of those persons that you just cannot expect not to be with us anymore - and in different ways he of course will always be around through his books and CDs and especially through his contributions to this board which always showed us he cared about the people around here. The last thing also goes for Annie - thank you so much for thinking about us in such troubled times. My thoughts are with Aileen, Annie and the whole Longden-family! Andrea
Ian Bl posts on 6/25/2013 4:56:21 AM This world is a much poorer place now - but maybe theres a wonderful welcome for such a great guy elsewhere.
Jenny posts on 6/24/2013 7:21:04 PM My very deepest condolences to Annie, Aileen, and family. As so many have said, Deric was loved by us all, and brought us pleasure and laughter beyond measure. Thank you for being so thoughtful as to post on here amidst your grief, Annie. May the love of all on here be some tiny comfort to you, and testament to the wonderful man that Deric was. We are so privileged to have 'known' him through his writing.
