Deric Longden Message Board

Annie Q posts on 6/23/2014 4:17:37 AM Since Deric found out he was Jewish at the age of 40 i have looked up some Jewish traditions for the first year anniversary of a death (knowing how he loved sparrows!) By Himig Heswita a song: "How lovely is your dwelling place oh lord mighty god, lord of all. Even though the lowly sparrow finds a home for her brood and the swallow and nest for herself where she may lay her young, in your altars my king and my god. Blessed are those whose dwelling is your own, lord of peace. Blessed are they refreshed by springs and by rain when dryness daunts and scathes. Behold my shield my king and my god. I would forsake a thousand other days anywhere if i could spend one day in your courts, belong to you alone. My strength are You alone my glory, my king and my god."

sugeebas posts on 6/22/2014 3:55:29 AM It has been a long time since I posted, sorry but the grief of Deric's death hit me harder than I expected. It hurt so much. I had contact to him a couple of times, but as you all have experienced by reading his books, he and his family had become a part of our family and his death was like loosing a dearly beloved. Today on the anniversary of his death, I am finally able to get back to the forum. Have missed you all. On Friday I found a small book in a charity shop, I immediately got a lump in my throat as I thought of Deric. The title: 50 Ways to kill a Slug. If Deric was still with us I would have mailed it to him, I'm sure it would have amused him. Instead, I will keep it and think of Deric everytime I pick it up. I think I am now ready to reread Deric's books. I send my greatings to everyone, old friends and new, and look forward to our regular comments.

Andrea posts on 6/22/2014 3:43:21 AM Conny, you can purchase them as Kindle Editions at Amazon. Just enter Deric Longden and Radio Times - there they are.
Conny posts on 6/21/2014 11:50:02 PM Thank you, Annie, for keeping us connected - I am with you in spirit and keep thinking of Deric a lot. As many others, I am also re-reading his books and do miss him, too. Love to all of you and especially Aileen. Blessings from Germany, Conny. PS: These lost manuscripts - how are they available? I did not quite get that...sorry!
Susannah posts on 6/11/2014 7:26:31 AM Hi All - it has been a long time, i hope everybody is well. In lieu of the coming date I have just started to re-read The cat that came in from the cold. I miss being able to think as I always did when reading his books that he was out there somewhere making people smile :o) Best wishes to Aileen, Annie and family x
Annie Q posts on 6/11/2014 2:52:35 AM Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. The family thank you all again for your kindness one year on since Deric's passing. There will be a family gathering at Aileen's house at the weekend to mark the occasion an I have collected some apt readings about birds (which you know he loved) and loss but happy bits too! The latest "lost" manuscripts are to be published as Radio Times Take 3 on the same day, 21st July.
Jan Tenzer posts on 6/10/2014 5:00:28 PM Hi Diana. I too have been aware of the date soon approaching. I miss knowing Deric was reading our posts and laughing along with us. He always had a way of surprising all of us with a silly story that always made my day. I miss all of the regulars as well. Take care, and try to think of happy thoughts of Deric. Love, Jan
Diana posts on 6/10/2014 2:56:59 PM Hello everyone. Just had to post as you're probably feeling rather sad at the moment. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Aileen and all the family as the anniversary approaches. Still love Deric's books and humor. Specially thinking of you - love Diana, Southampton xx
Andrea posts on 5/7/2014 10:53:57 AM Hi all - time to write something here again... Thanks, Annie, for the info about the books now being available as e-books. Remember I didn't have a Kindle when "Tailpieces" came out and shared the "You can download the Kindle-App for free"-news? I have purchased a "real Kindle" in the meantime for which (after reading Annie's message) I just bought those two books. I ran out of stuff to read this morning, so this was really perfect timing. Hope everything's going well for everyone around here?! Many greetings from Germany, Andrea
