As far as I know you can play any DVD on your PC using the VLC Player. That program doesn't care whether the disc's code matches the one of the DVD-drive and is available for free (just google it). Greetings to all, Andrea

With quite a few DVD players they can easily be converted to be 'region-free' by punching in numbers on the remote control while aiming it at the DVD player. If your customer Googles the brand and model of her DVD player plus the words 'region unlock code' there should be some useful results.

Hi I also had that problem but found a program on-line.It gave information for various brands of machine. It worked ok on 2 of 3 machines.

Hi Annie, I once purchased one of Deric's DVD's online and when I tried to play it, found that it was only for Region 1 (USA import!). I was so terribly upset. Then I had to have a computer expert in to fix my PC and I mentioned it to him. He said that he had a conversion programme and that would convert my DVD to Region 1. He came back with my DVD and a converted copy and I was a very happy fan indeed. So, you could advise your customer that there are possibilities to have her American DVD converted to play here in the UK. She should ask around and perhaps someone she knows, knows someone who could do it, or failing that, ask at a computer specialist shop. What they would charge I have no idea. I was lucky, the young guy did it for me without charging. There may even be conversion programs on line that she could use. Good Luck.

Hi Annie. I don't have an answer regarding the re-release of the DVD, but at least The Wedding Gift is available on youtube. Hope this is of some help. You're in our thoughts. Love, Jan

Hello - Bibliophile has been asked the following question, and I thought you may be best people to ask so I can help this lady...
God bless you all, Annie xx
"I have long been a fan of Deric’s marvellous books, and I am very sorry to hear of his sad passing, my thoughts are with Aileen and their families.
I have all of Deric’s books, and the wonderful Lost for Words on DVD, and I am wondering if anybody in you company can bring pressure to bear and get Wide Eyed and Legless re-released on DVD, I have tried contacting the BBC but have had no joy from them whatsoever. I don’t know who else to approach regarding this.
I know it is available with the title The Wedding Gift on a region 1 DVD in America; but that is no good to us in the UK with region 2 coding.

Thats a a great idea Audrey and Liz. I would be prepared to travel to meet up with a few of you. I'm sure that Deric would have loved the idea. At least we know that we all have lots in common. Any more of you fancy the idea? Love to everyone. Jocelyn from Brighouse.

It's a nice idea, Audrey. Perhaps those of us who like the idea also could make ourselves known and our area. Mine is Buxton in Derbyshire, which would include places like Deric's old stamping grounds, Matlock and Chesterfield. I have a car and my health so am quite mobile in terms of covering a wide area.
Love to all.
