Diana Gabaldon Message Board

Lyssa posts on 3/3/2006 2:57:55 PM Ok, Ken, if we're not entitled to our personal opinion that BOSAA was a slow-starter, then you're not entitled to your opinion that it wasn't. And apparently you ARE a world-class writer yourself???? because you recognized the true value of this book. Just kidding... well maybe a little. All we were saying is it was harder to get into than say, the first one. If you're trying to convince us that Diana is the best fiction writer ever, man, you're preaching to the choir! As far as Sara Donati goes--Diana DID give permission to her (and helped and encouraged her) to use Jamie and Claire in that first book. However, Diana's publisher flipped out and refused to let her do it anymore for copyright reasons. So the won't be in anyone else's books.... and I'm glad, because as cool as it was to catch another glimpse of characters I love, it's just to dangerous to leave Jamie and Claire in anyone else's hands but the masters : )
ken wagner posts on 3/2/2006 10:17:35 AM I have been browsing through this message board in an attempt to find out if and when the 7th outlander novel was set to release, and I find it funny that a number of people who have been writing in about 'Breath of Snow' have given there opinions as if they were world class writers themselves! stuff like "this isn't up to par" or " too much fluff and filler" is just ridiculous! I am a 38 year old reader of all the novels (finishing them, back to back, in a 2 month period), and from the first page of 'outlander' to the last page of 'breath', I have been held riveted and spellbound beyond my own expectations. That being said, (since I am not an avid message board subscriber)does anyone have info on the next (7th) outlander novel?
Rachel posts on 2/26/2006 9:04:38 PM I have read all the first 5 Outlander books, but I have a question. I've always thought that the ghost in the 1st book was Jamie and I was recently at Diana Gabaldon's website and there was mention that it is revealed that Jamie actually is the ghost and it is mentioned in book #5 (which should be The Fiery Cross) but it says that the book #5 is titled King, Farewell which I thought was the working title for book #6 (A breath of snow and ashes). Did I totlaly miss that scene when reading lat at night? Is it really in Fiey Cross or is it in the latest book (which I'm still waiting for to be returned to my public library!)?

mercedes posts on 2/7/2006 12:28:00 PM Lyssa, i guess if Diana writes to keep on track with time, then claire will have to get old, sounds interesting what you read, i wonder if diana knows about it? Angela, i too have just ordered sara Donat's book, so hope to enjoy them. will keep you posted. I think the first Gabaldon bk is the very best of all.
Lyssa posts on 2/7/2006 11:35:12 AM I have read BOSAA only once because I sent it off to my mom as soon as I finished it--can't wait to get it back! I too thought it was a really slow starter--didn't really pick up until Claire got kidnapped and then it was back up to par. Speaking of future books in the series, I read an excerpt where Claire is an old lady and for some reason she thinks Jamie is dead. She gets an offer of marriage from Lord John Grey... anyone else read that? Sorry, can't recall which site it was on. Sounds like a cool plot line, however!
Angela posts on 2/7/2006 7:28:53 AM I agree with the last commentator, Mercedes that last book wasn't up to Diana's usual par, but I'm still holding my breath the next one. Thanks Lyssa for taking my sugg and checking out Sara Donati's books, I waiting on her new come out two. I think I read all the books except for a breath of snow and ashes at least 3 times each, you discover something everytime. I now on snow and ashes for the 2nd time. I ever got my beautican and best mate and boyfrinds sis addicted too!
Marguerite posts on 2/6/2006 7:58:43 AM Mei Culpa, you are correct, it was Frank, though he did talk to Claire aboout it, which has started me reading the first book again. It was fantastic and certainly worth another read, since it seems Diane will be writing another book and will take two or more years before we get to read it, it would be worth the second read of all the books. Thanks again for the reminder that it was Frank who saw the ghost, it did get me to get the first book out and now to read again.
mercedes posts on 2/6/2006 7:04:00 AM I have just finished the last book too. Sadly i think it lacked alot of ooph! especially at the beginning. For me it only got going, to the standard of the others about the last 200 pages or so. I think her writing has changed and there is too much insignificant detail and flowery writing. It was Frank that saw the ghost not claire.
K.F posts on 2/3/2006 7:00:11 PM When I did go to listen to Diana she specifically said this was not the last book... I quote (roughly) " It took me three books to get through a war that lasted 6 months, I will not be able to do the same thing with a war that lasted ( i'm really not sure how long exactly) six years... SO this is definately not the last book"
Lyssa posts on 2/3/2006 10:57:45 AM Hey you guys--been checking out Sara Donati's books and they are good! Not quite but almost as good as Diana's. I LOVE that there are characters in the books from Outlander though it takes place later in the time period. Although normally I would be ticked that someone "stole" them, I am just so happy to read any mention of Claire and Jaime at all!
