Debbie Smith posts on 11/13/2006 11:54:17 PM I just would like to say I really enjoy all of Dorthea Benton Frank's novels. I really have fallen for her writing style! I can't wait until she gives us another book.
Isle of Palms Girl posts on 8/17/2005 11:33:28 AM Having grown up on Isle of Palms, I enjoy reading about so many places and people I knew, worked for and modeled for years ago. It brings back wonderful memories of those times and picturing the exact places really keeps me drawn to the stories. I have enjoyed all your books and have anxiously awaited the release of each of them. Having said that, I must tell you, I could have done without the Epilogue in Pawley's Island. At least the part where Huey comes clean. I feel the book was good enough without having to lay that shocker on us. Just seemed cheap and thrown in to me. His mother's death was touching enough and just when you're left feeling warm, you throw that on us. I feel you took away the warm feelings about his mother's passing.

Lowcountry Born & Bred posts on 8/10/2005 3:31:00 PM I grew up in Mount Pleasant and graduated from the C of C and now reside in Pawleys Island. Ms. Franks shameless promotion of her puporeted "provenance" to the Lowcountry (I know many of the true locals of Sullivans and I seriously question her linneage)and her outright, over the top, shameless self promotion of such makes me want to vomit. I look forward to seeing the next line of "original" lowcountry titles...Might I suggest a few, Ms. Frank? "Castle Pinckney?"; "Crab Bank?"; "Alhambra?"; "Montague Street?" Ooh, no...here it is..."South Battery" At least Conry got it right. Give me a break, Lady! Go back to New York!
Kenny Kaufman posts on 8/7/2005 10:11:36 PM We met at a book signing in Atlanta for Isle of Palms at Chapter 11 Bookstore. I was fortunate to be last in line which gave me a few more minutes to chat. I mentioned that your books would make wonderful movies. I just finished Pawleys Island and decided to renew my request to consider movies. When reading your books, and I have read them all, a thought comes to my mind that when I am enjoying something so much that I can't wait to finish so I can share with friends this great experience, and apposed to that it is so good that I do not want it to end. In all my reading years, and there are alot of them, Your books are by far the most enloyable. Consider movies, any one of them would be a homerun. Very sincerely Kenny Kaufman.
Gretchen Clerc posts on 8/4/2005 9:30:53 PM Last year, my friend and I read "Plantation," "Sullivan's Island," "Isle of Palms" and "Shem Creek" (and "Islands" by Anne Rivers Siddons) and fell in love with the Lowcountry! We and another friend visited there in June and felt like we had already been there. Now here comes the crazy part... we spent hours on Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms driving up and down looking at houses, eating seafood at the local restaurants, we took our picture by Stella Maris Church, found Queen Street in Charleston (we stayed on King and Lamboll). Finally, our friend, who has not read your books, said "If these books are fiction, why are we driving all around looking for places in the books?" You make fiction seem like real! Thank you for a wonderful vacation! We wish we were Geechee girls.
