Giant is a favorite book of mine. I have read it many times, from my childhood to my now senior years. The characters are so strongly drawn they seem alive, especially when obsrved against Ferbers dramatic history of Texas and her carefully placed locale descripions. Ferber had a fine ability to balance characters, plot, descriptions, dialog - all the elements of a novel - in such a way to make it breathe.

Excellant book, well written characters. It took awhile to "get into" it but about 1/4 of the way through its hard to put down.
