It is filled with such real-to-life characters and how Julia in particular seeks out to handle the grief of losing both her parents. Although my parents are living I can really relate to her struggle to make meaning of a life amidst the dead-end job, phantom college friends and fears that threaten to eat away any chance of happiness. I find humor in the characters frankness and in her fantasy about the way life should be. As I read the last page I couldn't help but think that a lot of women, including myself have been Julia during certain times of their lives.
