AvidReader posts on 10/10/2010 2:33:09 AM I'm looking for the name of a book I read a looong time ago - at least 8 years ago. This is what I can remember from it: It's a historical romance. The hero steals the heroine, I think because his enemy wanted her also. He takes her virginity (possibly rapes her), and then dips his family signet ring in the blood from her torn hymen, and stamps his family seal over the sheets, so that the enemy will know who has taken her. Then he steals her away and I think he marries her. But I think he keeps a mistress also, at least in the first half of the book, before he falls in love with his wife, of course. Sorry to be so vague, but this is really all I can remember. Hope someone recognizes it.

Ruth posts on 9/24/2010 10:53:45 PM When I was in high school, probably around 1978 or so, I read a book. I don’t remember the name of it, nor do I remember the author, but I‘d really like to read that book again. If I can only find somebody who knows what I’m talking about and can give me the missing information! The basic story is about a man. He’s a very rich man – perhaps the owner of a factory or a big building. He gets burned in a fire, and ends up retreating from society because of the scars. He automates his factory – or building – to the point where he lays everybody off; now it’s just him in the building. He goes out at night when everybody else is asleep, and comes across a zoo that has been emptied out, all except for a seal that has somehow been abandoned (like that would ever happen in real life!). He befriends the seal and takes it back “home” with him. He nurses it back to health, builds a huge tank for it, and basically heals a part of himself in the process of taking care of the injured animal. One day, he decides to take the seal for a swim in the actual ocean. The seal has such a good time he realizes that it needs to be set free. So he goes about having an underwater house built for himself so he can go live with his seal. One thing leads to another, and you find yourself in the Marianas Trench with the guy and his seal. The trench is so deep that the oxygen bubbles from his scuba gear go down instead of up, leading the man in the wrong direction. He runs out of oxygen and becomes disoriented even further – and winds up taking his mask off. Does this sound familiar to anybody? Can anybody tell me the title and author of this book?

Leslie posts on 6/24/2010 5:33:30 PM I just love the books written by Susanna Kearsley (historical fiction/mystery). Also now goes by name of Emma Cole (thrillers). You won't be able to put them down after the first page. She has written about 8 books now. Many titles include The Winter Sea, Mariana, The Shadowy Horses. Pls. post your thoughts once you have read one. This is a great website.
Sam posts on 6/24/2010 5:21:20 PM I am looking for the title of a book which starts where the wife is driving to dispose of the dead body of a boy that she and her husband had abducted. She starts hearing a noise from the trunk and panics and calls her husband who instructs her to take care of him. I was reading some other book and the first part of this book was at the end of that one.I think it would be a considered a Mystery/Thriller book. Also, I mostly read Lisa Jackson, Lisa Gardner, James Patterson, etc. type authors. I have looked all over the web but can't find it. Any suggestions would be a big help! Thanks.
