Staklybat posts on 6/16/2010 4:13:33 PM Hey guys, My name is Mark and I am from Stirling in the United Kingdom. I have the other day discovered this forum and I like it very much. I am a little bit shy so I wont write much about myself but maybe when I will get confortable, you guys will get to know me better! My main hobbies are cooking and watching movies. I also like outdoor activites but the temperature has been bad for the last weeks or so here |. I was wondering if someone else here is from the UK too? I am glad to have joined this forum! Cheers! :) Mark PS: I apologize if this was posted in the wrong section. I could not find the right one!

Steve posts on 8/30/2007 4:41:26 PM As, acording to his website, he is yet to complete the 5th book, any publication date would seem to be purely hopeful at this point.
Steve posts on 8/25/2007 1:28:45 AM Are you sure about the release date? He has mentioned nothing about being done.
JOhn posts on 7/23/2007 2:07:22 PM I run into “a song of ice and fire” the last Christmas! I was wandering in the fantasy section of a big bookstore trying to decide for a book to keep me company during holidays! My eyes fell on the “game of thrones”. To say that I was hesitant at first wouldn’t be an overstatement! A book about the heroic acts and deeds of Knights, not at a all my kind of thing! What I’m trying to say is that I considered it the kind of book that would fascinate Sansa Stark! Well to be frank in our history and tradition knights never had a place and when they appeared they linked themselves with distraction! In the Roman Empire and its succession in the east-the empire that falsely some historians refer as Byzantine- there never was knighthood because its structure never was feudalistic! But thanks to the dreadful crusades we became acquainted to those orders and most important their…heroic deeds, as utter distraction, rapes, desecration of churches and the cultural crime of the almost razing of the ancient Greek literature in the misfortune 4th Crusade, that ended with the capture of Constantinople and the decline and impoverishment of the empire to its inevitable, yet tragic fall to the Ottoman Turks! The think what attract me to the book was the plot and intrigue that declared in this Game of thrones. Byzantium was notorious of its intrigue to the point of the term “bysantinism” to be equal to plot! 24 hours later I was in the bookstore for the rest of the books! I was absolutely captivated! Indeed reading the series reminded me of “Alexias” of Princess Anna of the Imperial House of Komninoi, a historian of the early 12th century which refers to the life of her father Emperor Alexios of the Imperial House of Komninoi and the events of the first Crusades! The deeds of the crusaders were similar to Gregor Clegane’s and his men’s, or the Brave Companions’, while Alexios was a very noble generous and virtuous man, as far as an emperor could be, and yet extremely intelligent, clever and sufficient! A moral version of Petyr Baelish with the nobility of Eddard Strak! The enthralling was the plots, schemes and conspiracies that provided constant subversions and turnovers! Another thing is that frankly it resembles with classic ancient Greek tragedy! The bad characters at least seem to follow the triptych: ¾âñéò (ivris), ¢ôç (ati), ÍÝìåóéò (nemesis)! The heroes disregard and defy the moral low and standard: ¾âñéò (ivris), which leads them to confusion and inability to see and think clearly and logically with the inevitable consequence of loosing control: ¢ôç (ati), which terminally will conclude inescapably to their dreadful, fierce and terrible Nemesis! I strongly trust that the death of Tywin Lannister was such and I’m waiting as well as Theon’s Greyjoy, Walder and the rest of the Freys’ with their dreadful Red Wedding, and above all Cersei’s! So far the bad seem to get an equal for their crimes death! If you ask of my preferences I’m with the good guys, as good as they could be in Westeros! My favorite could be Jon Snow who seems to be the most devoted to his mission! The bastard of Winterfell being an outcast, yet so honorable is a character I would like to see through the end. By the way I couldn’t figure how many of your readers came to the conclusion that Jon is a bastard son of Prince Rhaegar’s and Lyanna’s Stark Well, a wishful thinking, might explain Jon’s treatment from Eddard, hope to see it flourish in the Dance with Dragons. As from the grand houses I vote for the house of Stark! Finally I support the claim of Daenerys Targaryen as legitimate Queen of Westeros a persona that I really liked evolving through the series! Though magic and dark forces seem to play a critical role in the development of the story I believe that the plots and schemes evolve it; the formers plain serve the latter in the progress of things. There are so many religions in the song of ice and fire with none to be presented as the true one! You left us with many cliffhangings though! Ser Loras dying, as so Brienne; Queens Cersei and Margaery imprisoned with the penalty of death; Arya Stark blind in the far Braavos seeking revenge as an acolyte of the Faceless Men; Theon’s and Deavos’ Seaworth fates unknown; Sansa as Alayne Stone Baelish's bastard daughter, in the middle of his plottings; Rickon and Bran both missing with the latter north to seek the crow, meeting Coldhands in a quest beyond the Wall; King Stannis at the Wall; Tyrion in an escape by ship to the free sities; Martells and Greyjoys try to win Daenerys and most probably her dragons, not to mention the oncoming attack of the Others and MOST IMPORTANT winter is at hand in a Westeros which is a feast for Crows ind
Martina Bailey posts on 7/6/2007 1:06:00 AM Well his new book in this series is being released in UK August 2007. I already have mine reserved. Just hoping that it is worth all the wait. I have read all the books so far and I can say I am hooked. I know alot of you say you have been disappointed in his last book but I think that as long as he can continue them, go for it.
