Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Message Board

anonymous posts a message on 7/11/2007 5:32:34 PM Prisoner of Azkaban had a LOT of entertaining scenes, but I think they could have done more justice to the book. I know they had to cut down a lot, because it is hard to sit down and watch a movie that is 3 hours long or more. I think the scenes that were cut out or deleted were fine, they just needed to shape some of the scenes they already had. For example, when Harry faced a dementor, he only heard his mother scream. They should have included the dialogue between his mother and Voldemort in the movie, since that is essential because it shows that Voldemort would give Lily a chance to live. Rowling said we would find out why in Book 7. Also, in the Shrieking Shack scene, Sirius and Lupin didn't explain that they were the Marauders who made the map and the whole werewolf story. No one who didn't read the book would understand why Harry's patronus looked like a stag or anything about the map and why the whomping willow tree was planted. I get that they didn't need to give the whole speech which went on for pages in the book, but Lupin could have briefly discussed it and add two more minutes in the film. The other thing I didn't like was the obvious mistakes in the film. The whomping willow tree's location changed in this film, since in the second film, it was positioned closer to the castle. Same goes for Hagrid's hut. Another mistake was how the moon just rose so fast when Lupin turned into a werewolf. The moon doesn't rise that quickly. Also, when Harry and Hermione go back in time, the timing was all screwed up. To give time for Hermione and Harry to chat, they made the scene where Hermione punched Malfoy longer than it actually was. It's the same when they were in Hagrid's hut. I think if they just made some touches on certain scenes, the movie would have been perfect. However, despite these loopholes, the film was entertaining to watch. I think they managed to capture the spirit of the book. The music was awesome as well as the special effects. The chemistry and emotions among the characters was displayed beautifully. The transitions between the scenes were wonderful. I also liked the humor.
aliciaskywalker posts on 11/26/2005 9:05:40 AM The movie of Azkaban was OK, but it didn't hang together very well - my little sister hadn't read the books when she watched it and she kept asking me what was going on. Needless to say this was very annoying. Portia - you are delusional. Come back to the real world.

aliciaskywalker posts on 9/1/2005 6:53:12 AM The moive was seriously not as good as the book. They missed out loads and because of that the stroy didn't hang together as well. My little sister who had at the time not read the book kept asking me what was going on and I agree with her.
