Nick posts on 3/8/2009 8:19:01 PM Please!! If someone has read chapter 8 of centennial please talk to me!!
Antonio M posts on 2/25/2009 5:59:39 AM I think I might have 95% of the books Mr. Michener wrote, and obviously read all of them, some like "Hawaii" at least a few times. You cannot imagine what Portugal was in the 60's and the "thirst-for-knowledge" of a 17 year old boy like me had about other countries and other ways of thinking.Mr.Michener gave me many different aspects of what I think USA were in those days, and still is today. Perhaps one of the most fascinating countries in the world, which now, being too old, perhaps I will never have the chance of going to. But the descriptions of James Michener will always remain in my mind as a sort of magic that, I hope, time will never erase.
Linda posts on 6/16/2008 4:32:27 PM In James Michener's "Poland", I think there was explanation of women keeping maiden names when married. Does anyone remember this? If so, what chapter?

Doug Soper posts on 7/11/2007 3:58:42 PM In ref; the novel "Hawaii" by James A. Michener. Pages 92-93 are driving me crazy w/ their navigational references (e.g., "easterly" winds, "westward", the shark tells the old woman to go to the left). I think the author was disoriented in his description of the final leg of the double canoe to the Islands, but I'd lke to be proven incorrect! Would somebody who has read this passage, and has some mariner acumen, email me so that we might discuss in detail? Thanks
