Jane Austen Message Board

Karen posts on 10/10/2012 10:07:26 AM Why isn't there more on this board! Jane Austen is the best! Just got back from a Jane Austen conference where I met a dozen authors who write "new Austen" - Linda Berdoll, Syrie James, Jane Rubino and Caitlen Rubino Bradway, Diane Birchall. It was a lot of fun and there were at least 700 people in attendance.
Joe Chavez posts on 1/1/2012 Joe Chavez has just written a review of Mansfield Park which you can see here
Leigh posts on 9/17/2009 9:37:28 AM sure. reading a book is completely different to watching a movie. in a book you are taken through the account of something. each minute detail is described to you and yet each person interprets it in their own way. therefore the message in a story is interpreted differently. in a movie the you are shown what happens. you dont image the wind through your hair the sun on your back the smell of baking etc... when i read a book then watch the movie i tend to look at them as completely different stories. for example, for all J.K Rowling put into the harry potter series, how much can you say is accuartly conveyed through the movies. sure the same things happen, but the telling is completely different. onto the topic of pride and prejudice movies however, i havn't actually read the book but i prefer the original movie to the one starring keira knightly because she does not represent the woman of jane austens time. her small frame her thinness even the slight boyishness about her just isn't how women were back then.

Sophie posts on 10/31/2008 5:57:16 AM I found emma really quite dull and hard to follow. It is not the sort of book for those who like to get straight to the action
D Hawthorne posts on 7/28/2008 9:33:52 PM I did not really enjoy this novel in the beginning it was sort of dull but in the end I discovered it to be very interesting. I really enjoyed the Characters of Darcy, Lizzie, and Lady Catherine. I would recomend this novel to others that enjoy this sort of reading. It really challenged my normal reading.
Kate posts on 1/7/2007 7:41:02 AM I think jane austens book pride and prejudice is amazing ... then i watched the bbc dvds of it and i thought it was pretty good , but then i watched the dvd with keira knightle y and i thought the acting in that was not nearly as good .. but thats only my opinion.
Adnamarine posts on 12/2/2006 10:04:33 AM Even though the Pride and Prejudice movie isn't NEARLY as good as the book, it's very good in it's own way. I Love the book. I started Mansfield park once and got maybe half way through, but it wasn't really that good, at least in my opinion. It was kind of boring; the characters were Nothing compared to those in P&P. I need to try some of her others. My sister liked Northanger Abbey. Is it good?
Lady Fanny posts on 11/27/2006 12:50:55 PM I think that Jane Austens writing style is super lame. You don't get to know the characters and when Darcy proposes the 2nd time to Lizzy, there's practically no dialouge. I'm so over JANE AUSTEN and the multiple movies made after her books. GAG ME!
Seven posts on 11/13/2006 4:53:31 PM Hmm so what kind of book is this? Interesting tell me MORE!!
