Jane Juska Message Board

Stanley Diamond posts on 3/8/2013 9:24:25 PM I just finished Unaccompanied Women. It's a beautiful and inspiring book, for men as well as for women. There's so much take away, but on top of the list for me is that determination need not be grim, it can be driven by joy, hope, and love. They say that life begins at 80, I hope that your next decade is filled with love, warmth, new and old friends, and the presence of a treasured lover or two.
Kelly Townsend posts on 1/31/2013 12:57:26 AM There's a bit of a New Zealand theme happening here - I am from NZ too. I loved your books Jane - very inspirational - come on down :)
Val Strachan posts on 2/28/2012 6:10:12 PM I came across 'Unaccompanied Women'quite by chance and loved it. The closing paras are really inspiring. Ever thought of visiting New Zealand, Jane? If so, there's a warm welcome waiting for you here - any time. I'm a "Masterpiece" by your definition and share many of your past experiences, including a trip to Germany in 1955 when I toured with my (male) penfriend in his Messerschmitt for several weeks.

freddie riley posts on 4/20/2011 12:30:43 PM Dear Jane, What an inspiring read 'encroiable' (sic) ! Come to South Africa and encourage some folk who believe they are 'gone with the wind'. Call me, should you pay our shores a visit. 0827870969. Best wishes, Freddie.
Stephen McDonald posts on 3/27/2011 3:35:52 PM I loved both the books and have passed them on to a number of my women friends. Unfortunately the main impression I was left with, apart from Janes indominable spirit, was the smallmindedness ,selfishness, and pettyness of most of the men she met.As a relatively young (53) straight male,I can only hope to avoid the misogynistic attitudes of these nasty old men as I grow older!!Or is it a US thing,Im from New Zealand!
kathy Hall posts on 9/15/2010 8:47:53 PM I just wanted to share that Roddy Doyle will be in San Francisco Friday evening Sept 17th (United Irish Cultural Center in SF) to talk about Fighting Words, his creative writing program for students of all ages. He will also be reading from one of his books. All are welcome to join us, tickets are available on eventbrite through noon Friday or call 650-235-6862 for more info.
I Left My Heart posts on 6/6/2010 5:29:08 PM Hi, Everyone! I hope all is well and that life's adventures are keeping you busy.... I thought I'd stop in today and see the latest....and it seems that not too many of us out there are contributing to Jane's message board! I honestly can't believe that our numbers are so few. I will say that I read Jane's book for the first time 2 summer's ago and found it rather enlightening, refreshing and honest....not something that too many of us are accustomed to hearing these days. Jane's book was first brought to my attention after reading her article in Vogue. All I can say is: WOW! I can't say that I am either young or naive any longer, but I can say that Jane put into words all of the reasons that I live the life I have chosen. With one exception: the acknowledgement that this life is more often than not on life support. What do you think?
Jeannie Rodman posts on 6/2/2010 4:51:52 PM HI Jane! I read your book, "A Round-Heeled Woman" a few years back, and had lent it out to several friends at work, so it has been lying around my office for awhile, and my eye found it again today. I was tickled to do an internet search and find that a play based on that wonderful book had been produced in San Francisco this year. I certainly hope it gets transplanted to the east coast so that we can enjoy it,too! I hope you are happy and fulfilled. You were terribly brave to put your incredible mind, heart (and body!) out there for us, and you are a personal hero of mine.
I Left My Heart posts on 5/25/2010 12:19:18 PM Just a test note in hope that it will post.
Lori Anzini posts on 5/18/2010 2:10:41 PM I have just finished your book and it has inspired me to finish my book! I am a widow that has gone through significant changes after a 36 year marriage. My "escapades" in my growth as a woman entering her senior years has had me worried, until I read your book. I live in the Bay Area and would love to get some insight from you and/or perhaps some mentoring about my writing abilities. I have "dabbled" in writing but am not a professionally educated person at it. My career took me into other categories of my life, including secretarial, government, union activity, politics (school board and city council), and IT management...so my education has been life-learned, and sustainable. If you could contact me, I would be ever so grateful. Your book has inspired me to move forward and complete my book on my "widow's journey to happiness". Thank you.
