Michelle posts on 11/11/2006 8:04:34 PM Dear Jeannette, You are truly an amazing woman. You must hear this several times, but your story affected me in ways that are unimaginable. Your story brought tears to my eyes, and definetly got me to be more thankful for the things I am blessed with. I am a young girl and I read your story for a project, and it just made me think about life in a whole new perspective. I can't even begin to think about how tough it must have been living in the conditions you did at such a young age. After all you have been through, I congratulate you on becoming so successful today. I also thank you for letting the world in on your past, and inspiring millions of people with your unbelieveable story. -Michelle

Wendy Riordan posts on 11/9/2006 9:16:37 AM Dear Jeannette, This is a crazy last minute invitation, but what do I have to loose? I'm just excited that I finally found your message board, although for some reason it has taken me about a month. I started browsing as soon as I finished your book - WOW! It was quite a ride...Thank you for taking me along... That being said, I have to be honest and not let you believe that all my efforts to find you were purely selfless...And to just pay you a complement....I actually would like to invite you, along with a guest to New England for an intimate book club gathering in South County Rhode Island. We would like to wine and dine you, Rhode Island style, at a historic lakeside B&B w/ private baths, fireplaces, kayaks, views and more...Your company, conversation, and thoughts are much desired by us...The other reason for this request is that I am actually hosting this meeting, which should be very food involved. The problem with your memoir, "The Glass Castle," is that I am at a loss for ideas on what menu I can present that goes along wth the theme. So I thought, "Hey, why not try to get Jeannette or even her mother to come!" I know it's a long shot and our little meeting is as soon as next Friday, November 17th at 7 p.m., But like I said, "What do I have to loose?" Sometimes things are just meant to be, and perhaps you are free...If not, my backup plan is to host the party in the back of a UHaul truck with cable spools as tables and chairs! The invitation also includes an overnight stay and of course we can take care of Amtrak from the city to RI...Anyway, thank you for a warm, motivating and entertaining read. Respectfully Yours, Wendy

Ella Schmidt posts on 10/27/2006 11:01:48 AM Dear Mrs. Walls, Our Warrenton Book Club, named the Book Bags, has just finished reading your novel,The Glass Castle. We found it to be a fascinating read and you to be an extraordinary author and person. We have currently learned that you live part of the year in Culpeper, VA. Do you ever speak to Book Clubs? We are a group of 13 women, who all live in the Warrenton area. We would be happy to meet you at a Culpeper restaurant or you are certainly welcome to visit at one of our homes. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Sincerely Ella Schmidt
posts on 9/26/2006 4:39:13 PM Dear Jeannette, Thank you for answering my letter. I know how much time and concentration it takes to write. I have completed seventeen novels. I'm editing several of them now, getting ready to promote my work. Both of us know what it is to be hurt and disappointed, our famlies have made sure that we've suffered. That's why I try not to hurt anyone else. People have to reach out to others, hoping to find what they should have had and didn't. Books, whether fiction or fact, can often answer many questions. I know you understand by the book that you've written. I don't have the courage to write about my entire life, bits and pieces of it are in my novels. I admire your generosity, sharing yourself so openly. My next book might be about my life, I don't think it would be as deep as yours. Thanks again for taking your time to answer a fellow author who admires your work. I will answer anyone who wants to hear from me, as I consider it a slap in the face not to. Warm wishes, Eadie

posts on 9/17/2006 3:00:29 PM I just read your book and it was so good I couldn't put it down. I found it very interesting especially because I live in Battle Mountain and we eat dinner at the Owl Club, which just reopened a couple of years ago. You are probable about the same age as my husband that grew up in Battle Mountain, you don't see too many 'native Battle Mountainers'. He was telling me that his mom and grandmother used to take him trick-or-treating at the Green Lantern and the other brothels in town. You did talk about the Indian children being Apache and Navaho when in fact they are Shosone and Pauite. I loved the way you just put one foot in front of the other and kept plugging along in the face of adversity it should prove to people that despite the fact that it's not so good I can still acheive and become a better person. I am recommending it to whoever will listen to me! Can't wait to read your next book!
posts on 9/15/2006 1:20:49 PM Jeanette, I loved your book, it was hard to put down. As an artist myself, I am curious to see what some of your mothers pieces looked like. Is there anywhere they are posted for sale or viewing?
