janet posts on 11/22/2005 1:23:32 AM JK's stubborn attempts to blame anatoli boukreev for the climb disaster should be seen for what they are....someone who wouldn't render assistance to other team members wanting to ease their guilty conscience by blaming someone else....absolutely disgusting
John Elwell posts on 6/23/2005 1:04:58 PM After many attempts to finish this book I gave up in disgust. But thumbing thru the book initially, this quote struck me dumb: "Everest seems to have poisioned many lives."--JK. Dramatic ending but ludicrous. It weren't the Mountain, JK. All climbers were eager to make the attempt even after being told time and again of the hazards involved. It's obvious that most of the "climbers" should have stayed home. Their deaths arouse no pity in me. They exercized free will but lost the battle. They chose to waste their lives. So be it. I'm more concerned about a friend who is dying at age 42. No choice or reprieve. Nada. Oh yes, the intellectual elite were well representedd on Mount Everest, engrs., entrepreneurs, AND doctors of all people who are supposedly brighter tha the rest of us. Not so, I guess.
Suzan Tarkenton posts on 2/24/2005 2:37:13 PM Thank you so much for writing this book. It is therapy for me. What is the current standing of the Lafferty brothers?

Bill Hankel posts on 2/11/2005 8:51:24 PM I am about half way throught Jon K's book about Mormonism. I would like to know if anyone else is speculating about the Brooke Wilberger disappearance and it's connection to her Mormon upbringing. Is it possible that she was abducted by a fundamental Mormon like Brian David Mitchell? It is also an interesting coincidence that Brooke was abducted in Corvallis, OR, Jon K's home town.
Florence Dawson posts on 2/1/2005 10:47:59 AM Jon Krakauer is my favorite author. Where would the discussion of "Under the Banner of Heaven" take place? On line?
Joseph H. Kurtz, M.D. posts on 1/29/2005 12:49:35 PM I loved Under the Banner of Heaven and will be leading a discussion of it. I would be honored if Mr. Krakauer could attend. Let me know. Joseph Kurtz.
