monte hausmann posts on 7/11/2014 9:10:38 AM My dad was also a friend and partner of John Rich. His name is James H. and in his Anchorage days he was sometimes called "Jimmy Champagne". He is a healthy 72 and lives in MN (his home state). My dad has told many stories throughout my life about his Anchorage days and the things that happened there during that time. He always told me that he had to leave Alaska suddenly because he was a partner in an after hours joint (complete with crooked gambling tables, etc.) with John and another gentleman named Marty. He was tipped off that it was about to be busted. Never knew how much was B.S. or true until I read about it in your book, amazing. He bartended the entire time he was in Anchorage, mainly at "The Pines" nightclub. He told me that he set up many card games for John during that time. My dad played mainly dice and can still work the "whip cup" very good to this day. He also told me about many other colorful characters like a guy named "T.V. Bob" don't know if anyone would know his real name, or who he was, but I would love to know more about him. I could go on and on. My dad is still a wealth of knowledge, and I can be contacted by e-mail anytime about any of this. My name is Monte.
Brian posts on 5/14/2012 3:01:03 AM I have always wondered if you are the Kim Rich that I knew from a group in Anchorage in the late 80's with Ray Farmer. I don't want to name the group online but if it is you, you would remember Ray Farmer and Larry Brown

Jaci posts on 3/23/2010 8:20:51 PM OMG! I've heard about Kim Rich and many of the adventures her, my mother, Cindy Fennell, and their other friends had. What an incredibly small world!! She's now living in Salem, OR as Cindy Smith- find her on Facebook!! Jeff Moudy just found her, and its always such a shock for me to witness this time of her life! does anyone possibly have pictures?! Jimmy - my mother hitchhiked to NH remember?! she told me your parents celebrated her 16th birthday there with you! you taught her how to play harmonica as well, she's still quite good ;)
Jim Miles posts on 2/7/2010 11:07:03 AM I beleive I stayed with Kim right after her dad was murdered. If it is the Kim I knew from 1974 in Anchorage, she would also know me for I borrowed money from her to travel back to NH and have always wanted to pay her back but lost her contact info those many years ago. Please remind Kim of me; Tell her me, Bob, Greg, and Curtis, all stayed in her house with the hookers and other folk that wandered in out of the cold in those early Spring days of 1974 I ate cow toung for the first time out of her refrigerator and have always beleived she was jewish because of that. Thank you, Jim Miles
Charles Darryll Smith posts on 7/25/2009 8:23:58 PM I thought your story was well written, I have a similiar story that included my mom whom brought us to Anchorage in 64 before before the earthquake. I married in 75 to the grandaughter of the Oasis club and divorced. but the shady element or what drives men in Alaska to murder still troubles my life. Kim, in order to move on you must forgive, my mom was taken from me in 82 by a person that wanted to ruin the families happiness. I will always love Alaska and I will always look over my shoulder because of the terrible event that affected me in the same way your event affected you. but i continue to move forward and thats what you must do. no matter what. and the bet advice I can give is find contentment in your life. You and I are use to so much more and it can happen but you must find contentment and be thankful for any extras that come unexpected. Learn to love and love to learn and your life will take on a new meaning , God Bless and e-mail me anytime!!!!!!
HR posts on 4/7/2009 9:04:17 PM In response to Cynthia'post on 04/01: That is really sad. From what little I was able to gather on the internet it appeared that she had been able to overcome an extremely difficult childhood and find success and happiness. It is difficult to overcome a broken family and crazy life like she had through no fault of her own. It seems in many cases that some baggage is always with you and the scars are always there. Good luck to her as far as I am concerned. Like I said I loved "Johnny's Girl" and hopefully she will decide to write some more. Does anyone know why she has not written anything else? I thought she told a great story and ZI couldn't put "Johnny's Girl" down.
Cynthia posts on 4/1/2009 4:21:31 PM Kim is not doing well. She is going through a divorce with three small children and she has lost everything. I don't believe she is doing well because she put her hopes and dreams in wealth first before love. Sometimes people have to learn the hard way. I feel sorry for her and she doesn't have the ability to look objectively at herself and change.
