Meghanne posts on 3/28/2005 6:27:20 PM Can anyone point me to any character analyses of Santiago, particularly Jungian? Whether, online or in print?

Bradshaw posts on 3/2/2005 2:40:16 PM I'm a big Coelho fan but new to this board. I am also an English instructor teaching Coelho's The Alchemist in an English class. Today in our class, we had a great debate over the connection between The Language of the World, the Soul of the World, Maktub, Omens and Intuition. Is there an expert here who would be willing to try to explain the connection between all of these ideas? Some students felt that Coelho's ideas about intuition and omens weren't plausible - one student took particular offence to the use of the word "intuition" on page 106 of the second edition. He argued that intution can't be trusted, and that we can never really know what is supposed to be an omen that helps keep us on the path to reaching our personal legend, and what we just want to be an omen. We also got into the apparent contradiction between the idea that "it is written," implying that one's personal legend is chosen for them by God, and that of the "world's greatest lie" that we one day lose control over our own lives. If our personal legends are predetermined, then what degree of control do we really have? I'd love to hear what others have to say about these issues, particularly the first.

Smink Works posts supporting argument on 2/14/2005 2:12:06 AM I agree. It's inspiration in your inbox; like a mini Coelho book every week! Did you see you can take a virtual trip with Coelho in June too? Apparently computer armchair travellers will be able to join him on a trip on the Transiberian railroad via webcam. S S
