Dear Peg, I am writing a research paper on your book "Small Steps". My name is Xcaret Ramirez and I am an eghith grader at United Middle School in Laredo, Texas. My reading teacher has assigned us a power point on polio. IF youn wouldn't mind, I would appreciate if you would answer a few of my questions for my power point presentation? Did society put obstacles in your life because of your physical condition? If so, how did you overcome this? What dreams did you have before you became a victim of polio? This is the first time that I corrspond with the author of a book. I admire you and I would be honored if you reply to me.

I'd like a honest vote, raise of hands how many of you would pick up a book on werewolves, vampires, magicians or cupid.

Dear peg, I love your book small steps. It is the best book I've ever read!!! It is the greatest. My class is reading your book. It capures all the girls' emotions. 13 already cried when you got to the part about seeing Tommy, the 8 year old boy you met when you got out of the isolation ward.[ They cried because they thought he might be cute and felt sorry for him.] You must nt like people saying,'' Hey! That is Peg Kehret, the girl who had Bulbar, spinal, and respitory polio!'' I think you probably got used to it, if anyone knew you from the news or something.

My class and I are readding Small Steps:The Year I Got Polio. It is my favoite book ever!I think it's kind of sad,but still happy. If my teacher,Mrs.Woods, says we have to do our work faster if we want to read it,believe me we'll fly.It makes us think about how lucky we are to be so healthy!I can remember a few of the people in it:Tommy,Alice Shanon ,and Mrs.Crab, and I could name more if I had it here.I want to read more of your books too,and I promice I will!I might even buy Small Steps.
