I just wish both of the brothers the best of luck. I know wat it 's like to live this way and i wish i was this strong too. I live in Belgium and when i read your books i was amazed by the strengh that you both had. I wish you continue the good work you do. Good luck from Belgium.

Richard was named "Russell" in David's books.
These books are heartbreaking. How can anyone call David and Richard a liar?

How can anyone call a frightened child a little nazi...? That is terrible. When you are a child you think as a child, and all you can think of is your own fear. I can remember when i was a child myself, if our mother became abusive, it was always a relief if she chose someone else to batter black and blue. I feel no guilt for that. Children are not to be hailed as heroes for saving someone else's skin ! What do you think this is - the army ? Wake up !!!

Having been abused by our mother i can see why richard joined in against his brother david (because he was afraid for himself weak,whereas i was strong and was not afraid to stand up for my younger sister and my brother but my other sister was weak like richard(but she is affected by the fact that she made my life worse and my youngers sisters life worse).i hope to write a book soon but i am afraid to upset too many people but, i know i must do it.

I knew all of them and I have found both stories to be accurate and truthful. Dave has his story and Richard has his. The other boys, their brothers, are also great people. They were as kids and are as adults. Why spend time blasting Richard and praise Dave or visa versa. What’s the point. By the way, if you want to comment on Dave use his page and comment there.

Read back the comments...NO ONE has called DAVE PELZER (the real victim) a fake or a liar. They only call RICHARD PELZER (Dave's brother) a fake and a liar. RICHARD PELZER wrote his books ONLY after his brother DAVE gained some success from his books. He certainly deserved some success after what he was subjected to by both his mother and his brother (RICHARD PELZER). RICHARD PELZER ONLY wrote his pathetic book (anyone who has actually read RICHARD'S book will see that he only wrote it to make $ off of his brother's abuse). YES...THOSE OF US WHO KNEW BOTH DAVID AND RICHARD WHEN THEY WERE CHILDREN AND KNOW WHO IS THE "BIG-FAT-LIAR". That would be RICHARD PELZER. It is NO WONDER that Dave won't have anything to do with "THE LITTLE NAZI" (RICHARD PELZER).

Thank you for the courage to share your life with us. Dealing with this kind of abuse for a whole lifetime is difficult. Helping others understand and learn from you is a great accomplishment. Some of the people who post here don’t get it. It’s not about the individual, is it?

I think what happened to the two boys was horrible and the mother should have been PUNISHED long before she died. The father was there and did nothing to help his own boys. I've read all of Dave's books. Wonderful author. These books really opens the eyes of the readers to see just how bad child abuse is in the world and help people understand that there is hope for those being abused. I think Dave is a hero for coming forth and telling his story. Thanks Dave.

I have read all Dave Pelzer's books and are at this time reading them again. The reason being that the first time around I really if I'm honest captured that horror of his life and the second time around I am capturing his strength and determination to be who he has become.
As a mother I can not comprehend how a so called mother could do the things she did with such coldness and indifference to her own flesh and blood whilst treating the other kids normally.
This woman obvisiously had extreme mental health problems and the fact that the authorities didn't pick up on this just by the state of David's appearance at school the fact that he stole food and all the bruising is beyond belief. It is not just down to the teachers etc but also the neighbours who must have noticed this poor bedraggled child.
The thing that makes me most angry is that people say that wouldn't happen now in todays society, but it does. Will we ever learn our lesson?
