Robin McKinley Message Board

chittavrtti posts on 2/7/2006 12:15:28 AM Hi Cameron. If you go to Ms. McKinley's website she has a whole FAQ page that will probably help you with your report. I agree that Sunshine was left open for more to come, but not completely. Kind of like an option rather than a must. Ms. McKinley talks about that on her site as well. I would personally love a continuation. CV
Dawn posts on 2/6/2006 8:19:27 PM I thought that Sunshine was a very different turn for Robin Mckinley. That's not to say that I didn't like it. I did enjoy reading it. But felt unresolved at the end, as if left wide open for another story. Is she going to do a sequel to it? I would be very eager to get my hands on it if she did.
Burrahobbit posts on 2/6/2006 7:51:50 PM I haven't read Sunshine or Rose Daughter, but I think that Beauty was her best book. Her other works have their moments, but Beauty is the only one that is basicaly flawless

cameron posts on 2/6/2006 7:35:49 PM i am doing a biography on you because were doing a newberry report and im reading the hero and the crown and i need a little info please i need to know if you hav children and what your career is.
chittavrtti posts on 1/17/2006 11:51:20 PM Sunshine was quite a change from Ms. McKinley's other works. While it was stream of consciousness in style and less lyrical then Beauty or Rose daughter the protagonast still remained inwardly reflective, literate and empathetic (all hallmarks of a McKinley character). It was also another version of Beauty and the Beast. Much as Sunshine has her comfort reads, Sunshine the book has become one of mine. It doesn't mean that I can't hear critiques though.
Lady posts on 1/17/2006 7:52:16 AM isn't that the funny thing though? is that Robin McKinley loved the story of Beauty and the Beast so much, that once her career was off to a great start, she was disappointed with herself for using that story for her first book. first books are rarely that good. but then she tried writing another one, and most people like beauty better. i HOPE she doesn't write another book like sunshine. i'm sorry, that was a major disappointment to me. she's my fav. author (second only to tolkien) and her most recent book was... um, i won't drone on about it. not great.
Tiffany posts on 1/17/2006 7:51:27 AM I've read Rose Daughter but I am still waiting for my library to get Beauty in. And I need to go to the library today to get the Blue Sword. I've read the Hero and the Crown, though. I thought it was good, but sad.
magyckspel posts on 1/16/2006 11:21:05 PM I always liked beauty better than rose daughter... I was never sure why. The blue sword was always my favorite though.
chittavrtti posts on 12/22/2005 12:44:20 AM Perhaps no news is good news. It may mean that she is hard at work on another book. It's interesting how people disagree about Rose Daughter and Beauty. I would say that Beauty is a classic retelling and that Rose daughter is a more mystical (perhaps influenced by McKinley's move to England)story. I am curious if she will right a sequal or companion volume to Sunshine. All the reviews I have read of it so far are very mixed.
magyckspel posts on 12/15/2005 12:49:07 AM so does anyone what ms mckinley is up to now? can;t find any news,.
