Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Message Board

Elaine posts on 2/4/2014 5:37:36 AM So who here likes the TV series "Sherlock"?? Do you think it is a fair updating of the Conan Doyle stories?
Eleanor posts on 1/29/2014 11:19:26 AM The last I heard about the Doyle case was that the court ruled for Klinger who wanted to free up the Sherlock Holmes works and have them put in public domain. The court allowed everything up to 1923 to be in public domain so that means any stories or characters written before that, which is most of them, are up for grabs. So now do we see a high tide of Sherlockian lit?
Alan posts on 9/6/2013 12:19:03 PM Jen: No, Holmes is still managed by a literary administrator in the US. The suit claims elements of Holmes entered public domain because of the publication date. N. Silver - Watched both and I throw in with Elementary. Not getting the popularity of Sherlock and I am a Holmsian from way back.

Jen A posts on 2/25/2013 3:14:07 PM So what is the deal with the recent court case to open up Sherlock Holmes to the public domain in the US? I thought Holmes was in public domain everywhere - I see a lot of new books with the Holmes character and read every one of the Laurie King series.
N Silver posts on 7/26/2012 9:08:11 AM In total agreement with Jordan. The BBC series is not authentic. Okay entertainment but no feeling for the Canonical Holmes. Waiting on the CBS one with Jonny Lee Miller, but keeping the expectations low.
Jordan posts on 7/13/2012 8:52:13 AM Surprised to see that there is not a whole lot more discussion on a Conan Doyle board since that new series has got so popular. I do not like the new series as a portrayal of Sherlock Holmes and don't know what to expect from the one coming on in the fall. Also not a real fan of the Robert Downey movies. I did love Jeremy Brett and think that some of the episodes of that series brought me back to what i felt when i read the stories.
