posts on 8/15/2006 4:35:00 PM Just to congratulate with You Mr. Stel, i'm reading in these days your story "Decipher" and it is going to be one of the best book i've read since a long time Byebye from Firenze!!
posts on 7/9/2006 5:51:44 PM Hi guys. Just to let people know I won't be posting here much from now on, I'll be over at myspace where I can keep people better updated with blogs and bulletins. Mike, at the time I wrote Decipher in the mid to late 90s all terminology was still very much in use. In fact not so long ago a satellite was put into the incorrect orbit because the scientists didn't convert imperial to metric properly. So even as recent as three years ago imperial measurements were still in scientific use in certain circles. I wrote in US spelling because I used to live there, have an American child, have many American friends and have a great affection for the place. I'm not the only Brit to do so. Lee Child is a fellow British bestselling author who writes as though he were American. The 20th Century was the great American century for literature, it would be unsual for writers such as myself not to be affected by the impact of that! Hi Adrian, many thanks for your kind words. I hope I can always entertain and surprise you. Farang, sorry to hear about your disappointment. Generally I find if you always approach something with an expectation you're in for disappointment. I hope never to write the same story twice, unless I've planned a series ahead of time. Approaching my work expecting the same thing as last time will always catch you out, and that's unlikely to change. I'm interested in writing just too many things! John: Never enough. Finally you curs, get out and buy Elemental. It has me and a whole bunch of great writers in it. Some chap named Arthur C. Clarke is one! Also this month Dr. Who The Centenarian anthology is out which I have a 4th Doctor story in. Get over to Big Finish and start spending some money!

posts on 7/6/2006 9:39:37 PM Just finished Gene. Have to admit to being VERY DISAPPOINTED. Had great expectations after reading Decipher, but Gene just did not hack it for me.
posts on 7/6/2006 11:24:55 AM Stel, not being in any way obseqious, but your books are fantastic, Dicepher was a seamless combination of fact, fiction and mythology, which i have read 3 times to date, i have just bought Gene, and i'm enjoying it every bit as much, i watch with eager interest for anything else(film or book), that there may be in the pipeline, regards, A born-again reader.
posts on 7/6/2006 6:29:30 AM I've just finished "Decipher" and it's a terrific read. The scientific, historic and linguistic detail is astounding. However, the use of "miles" and "inches" sounds decidedly unscientific. Units like "Angstroms" are not used much any more, either. It was a little curious to find a book written by an Englishman having mostly American stars and mostly from a US viewpoint (with Us spellings, too, at least in my edition). Perhaps Stel has an eye on movie rights? I look forward to "Gene".
posts on 4/22/2006 9:32:05 AM If Michael (USA) still reads this board, can you go to my website and drop me an e-mail, I have a question to ask you ;)
posts on 4/16/2006 10:05:59 AM Very kind of you to say so Stel but I fell into the "firstlove (almost i think )kinda nice but ultimately not the one" bracket! Went to see one of Louis' bands play about a whole decade ago (yipes),glad to hear he is still keeping the faith! Anyways it just struck me as remarkably bad manners on my part to tell you I found your book in a charity shop, rest assured it simply means that the quality of stuff that people donate must be not bad ! Ta for replying ,still reading Gene ,and looking forward to another. Sure but it looks so easy to dash off a book every now and again I may even give it go myself ,watch out JK Rowling theres a new girl in town ,ha ha!! All the best
posts on 4/16/2006 12:31:17 AM Hi everyone, this is a hit and run I'm afraid. Been absolutely swamped with work. Writing three novels at the same time kind of does that to a person. Thanks for all the feedback, good and bad, it hasn't been ignored and as always is very much appreciated. Just wanted to remind SF fans out there that Elemental comes out next month, in aid of Save the Children Tsunami Relief. I'm in there with a bunch of big guns and every copy goes towards this worthy cause. (Oh and Shannon, I'm certain you're one of those drop dead gorgeous women James tends to find. I swear that boy's last name should have been Bond)
posts on 4/13/2006 9:05:30 AM Weird!! Not the book but the coming by it! ,Just picked it up in a charity shop of all places and remembered your name being mentioned by a good friend of yours called James ,that I went out with for a while ,many years ago!! Anyways saw the name and had heard good things about your other book Decipher. So to cut a long story short ,have just started to read and am very happy to say its a thumbs up! All the best Shannon
